2026 Training

Alaska Baptist Disaster Relief Regional Coordinators or a host church can set up Alaska Baptist Disaster Relief TRAINING. Click on "Contact Gary" to schedule this event at your church.
Topics Can Include:
Introduction to Alaska Baptist Disaster Relief
This course provides an overview of how Alaska Baptist Disaster Relief serves communities in times of crisis. Participants will learn about the mission, history, and structure of ABDR, as well as the partnerships that make this ministry effective across the state and beyond. The class highlights both the spiritual and practical aspects of disaster relief, showing how churches can prepare and respond when needs arise. It serves as an entry point for understanding how local congregations and individual volunteers can be part of bringing help, hope, and healing through ABDR.
(3 hours)
Ready Church
This course equips congregations to prepare for ministry in the midst of disaster. Participants will learn how to develop a church disaster response plan, identify available resources, and organize volunteers for effective service. The training emphasizes both readiness and resilience, helping churches care for their members while also reaching out to their communities during times of crisis. By the end of the course, leaders will have practical tools to ensure their church can stand strong and serve faithfully when disaster strikes.
(2 to 3 hours)
Spiritual Care for Disaster Relief (Chaplaincy)
Chaplains play a vital role in helping survivors take their first steps toward spiritual and emotional recovery. Each disaster response team is encouraged to have a spiritual care leader, not only for those we serve but also for fellow volunteers. At times, chaplaincy centers are established where trained caregivers can meet with individuals or families one-on-one, offering prayer, encouragement, and a listening ear.
